Rory McIlroy uses a SuperStroke Zenergy Pistol Tour grip on his TaylorMade Spider Tour X3 putter — the same setup that carried him to back-to-back Masters titles. The grip uses Enhanced SPYNE Technology, an embossed ridge along its underside that helps return the putter face to square at impact, along with Multi-Zone Texturing for added feel and feedback.

McIlroy adopted the TaylorMade Spider Tour X putter at the 2024 Tour Championship, and the switch coincided with a dramatic improvement on the greens — climbing from 59th in Strokes Gained Putting in 2024 to ninth in 2025, a leap that directly fed into his career grand slam breakthrough.

What Grips Does Rory McIlroy Use on His Irons?

For his full swing clubs, from driver down through his wedges, McIlroy uses the Golf Pride Tour Velvet Cord grip — far from an exotic or custom choice. It's one of the most widely used grip models in golf, favored by tour professionals and amateurs alike for decades.

His hand placement matters just as much as the grip model itself. McIlroy uses an interlocking grip style, where the pinky finger of his trailing hand intertwines with the index finger of his lead hand, locking both hands together into a single unified action. His hands form a neutral position, with both "V" shapes pointing toward his right shoulder, encouraging a natural, square release through impact.

What Golf Clubs Will Rory McIlroy Use?

McIlroy's 2026 bag is fully TaylorMade, a partnership he's held since signing with the brand in 2017. He plays a Qi4D driver, a Qi10 3-wood at 15 degrees, and a Qi4D 5-wood at 18 degrees, with Fujikura Ventus Black shafts throughout.

His irons have seen the biggest shake-up of his career. For the first time, McIlroy started a 2026 tournament with cavity-back irons, switching to TaylorMade P7CB models after a career built almost entirely on blades. He later reverted to his familiar TaylorMade Rors Proto irons for 5 through 9, paired with a P760 4-iron and Project X 7.0 shafts. His wedge setup uses four TaylorMade MG5 wedges across 46, 50, 54, and 60 degrees.

What Ball Does Rory McIlroy Use?

McIlroy plays the TaylorMade TP5 golf ball, a switch he made at the start of the 2025 season. He moved away from the TP5x to the standard TP5, which gave him a slightly lower launch angle on full iron shots while keeping similar spin rates and ball speed. McIlroy himself described the change simply: "I sort of stumbled upon it."

A small but telling detail sits on the ball itself — it carries "RORS" printed in place of a standard number, a personal touch on an otherwise stock product.
