We collect what we need to run the site, nothing more. This policy explains exactly what that is, how we store it, and how you can ask us to delete it.

Short version

We do not sell your data. We do not rent it. We use analytics to understand what content you read and email only when you've asked us to. You can unsubscribe or request deletion at any time.

01

Information We Collect

We collect information in two ways: what you give us directly, and what we gather automatically when you use the site.

What you give us

  • Newsletter sign-ups: your email address and the date you subscribed.
  • Contact form submissions: your name, email, and the content of your message.
  • Comment submissions (where enabled): your name and comment text.

What we collect automatically

  • Usage data: pages visited, time on page, referring URL, and browser type — collected via Google Analytics.
  • IP address: logged briefly for security and spam prevention, then anonymised.
  • Cookies: session cookies to keep the site functioning and analytics cookies to understand traffic patterns.

We do not collect payment information. We do not collect government-issued ID numbers. We do not build advertising profiles.

02

How We Use Your Information

The data we collect is used for three purposes and nothing else.

  1. Running the site: serving pages, preventing abuse, and fixing bugs.
  2. Sending you content you requested: if you subscribed to the newsletter, we send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time with one click.
  3. Understanding our audience: anonymised analytics help us decide what to cover and how to improve the site.

We do not use your data for automated decision-making. We do not use it for profiling. We do not use it to serve you targeted advertising on Sportify or on third-party platforms.

03

Cookies

This site uses the following types of cookies:

  • Strictly necessary cookies: required for the site to work. You cannot opt out of these.
  • Analytics cookies (Google Analytics): help us count visitors and understand traffic patterns. IP addresses are anonymised. You can opt out using the cookie preference panel or the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

We do not use advertising cookies. We do not use tracking pixels from social media platforms.

To manage your cookie preferences, use the cookie panel in the footer of any page.

04

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data.

We share data with a small number of service providers who help us run the site:

  • Mailchimp — email delivery for our newsletter
  • Google Analytics — anonymised traffic analytics
  • Cloudflare — CDN and security
  • Hetzner — server hosting (EU-based)

Each provider is bound by a data processing agreement. None of them are permitted to use your data for their own marketing purposes.

We may disclose information if required by law — for example, in response to a valid court order. We will notify you if we receive such a request and are legally permitted to do so.

05

Data Retention

We keep your data only as long as we need it.

  • Newsletter subscribers: your email is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
  • Contact form submissions: kept for 12 months, then deleted unless a legal or editorial reason requires longer retention.
  • Analytics data: aggregated and anonymised within 14 months per our Google Analytics configuration.
  • Server logs (IP addresses): rotated and deleted after 30 days.
06

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you have various rights over your personal data.

For everyone:

  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link at the bottom of any email.
  • Request deletion of your contact form submission or subscriber record by emailing privacy@sportify.com.

For EU/UK residents (GDPR): you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, data portability, and object to processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.

For California residents (CCPA): you have the right to know what data we collect, request deletion, and opt out of data sale (we do not sell data, but you have this right).

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@sportify.com. We respond within 30 days.

07

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data:

  • All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS.
  • Access to personal data is restricted to employees who need it for their job.
  • Our servers are hosted in ISO 27001-certified data centres.
  • Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. We do not store plain-text passwords.

No security system is perfect. If we discover a breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you within 72 hours in compliance with GDPR requirements.

09

Children's Privacy

Sportify is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13.

If you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal data to us, please contact privacy@sportify.com and we will delete it promptly.

10

Changes to This Policy

We update this policy when our data practices change. The "Last Updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision.

For material changes — changes that affect how we use your data in a meaningful way — we will notify newsletter subscribers by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect.

Continued use of the site after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
