Biography

Chico to Green Bay at 24

Aaron Rodgers was born on December 2, 1983, in Chico, California. No major program recruited him out of Pleasant Valley High School, so he enrolled at Butte College, a junior college where he threw 26 touchdowns and led his team to a 10-1 record. That one year earned him a transfer to UC Berkeley, where he set Cal's records for lowest single-season and career interception rates. NFL scouts took notice. Entering the 2005 Draft, ESPN projected him as a possible top-10 pick. Instead, Rodgers sat in the green room as 23 teams passed. Green Bay selected him 24th overall.

He spent three seasons backing up Brett Favre. When Favre retired, then changed his mind, the Packers traded him to the New York Jets rather than hand him back the starting job. Rodgers made his first start on September 8, 2008, against the Minnesota Vikings. Green Bay won 24-19. He was the first quarterback other than Favre to start a regular season game for the Packers since 1992. That debut season: 4,038 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, 13 interceptions. As of 2025, that interception total still stands as the most he has thrown in any single season.

Super Bowl XLV: The Only Ring

The 2010 season delivered the summit. Rodgers led the Green Bay Packers to Super Bowl XLV on February 6, 2011, at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The opponent: the Pittsburgh Steelers. He completed 24 of 39 passes for 304 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Green Bay won 31-25. He was named Super Bowl MVP, joining a short list of quarterbacks to throw for 300-plus yards, three-plus touchdowns, and no interceptions in a Super Bowl. His full postseason that year: 1,094 passing yards, nine touchdowns, two interceptions, a 68.2% completion rate, and a 109.8 passer rating — the only player in NFL history to pass for 900-plus yards and rush for two-plus touchdowns in a single postseason run.

The following season, 2011, Rodgers posted a 122.5 passer rating — the highest single-season mark in NFL history. He won the AP NFL MVP and the AP Athlete of the Year. That record has not been broken. He would take the AP NFL MVP again in 2014, 2020, and 2021, becoming the fifth player in NFL history to win the award in consecutive seasons.

122.5: A Rating No QB Has Matched

The records Rodgers built across 15 years as the Green Bay Packers' starter define the statistical case for his place in the sport. His career passer rating exceeds 100.0 — the first quarterback in NFL history to finish with a career passer rating above that threshold. His career touchdown-to-interception ratio of 4.34 is the best in NFL history. His career interception percentage of 1.4% is the second lowest in NFL history. He remains the only player with 400-plus passing touchdowns and a career passer rating above 100.

In 2018, Rodgers set the NFL record for consecutive pass attempts without an interception: 402 straight, breaking Tom Brady's previous record of 359. The streak ended in Week 15 against Chicago, intercepted by Eddie Jackson. In the postseason, he ranks second all-time in touchdown-to-interception ratio, fourth in passing yards, and eighth in passer rating. Wisconsin declared December 12, 2012, "Aaron Rodgers Day." Across his career: 10 Pro Bowls, four All-Pro selections, nine division titles — tied for fourth-most in NFL history behind Tom Brady (19), Peyton Manning (12), and Otto Graham (10).

Jets, an Achilles, and a Comeback

Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets in April 2023. On his 4th snap as a Jet. A torn left Achilles. He left on a cart — Week 1, September 11, 2023, against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. He recovered fully and returned for the entire 2024 season. Across 18 games in New York: 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 90.4 passer rating. The Jets missed the playoffs and released him after the season.

He signed with Pittsburgh on June 7, 2025, on a one-year deal worth $13.65 million. Wearing number 8, he debuted September 7 against his former team, the Jets: 22 completions on 30 attempts, 244 yards, four touchdowns, zero turnovers in a 34-32 win. Later that month, a touchdown pass to DK Metcalf gave him his 509th career score, passing Brett Favre into fourth place on the all-time list.

Pittsburgh, 9 Titles, One Last Run

Week 18, 2025. A 26-24 win over the Baltimore Ravens clinched the AFC North. Rodgers completed 31 of 47 passes for 294 yards, found Calvin Austin III on a 26-yard touchdown with 55 seconds remaining, and Baltimore rookie Tyler Loop missed a 44-yard field goal as time expired. Head coach Mike Tomlin said afterward: "This was the vision in the spring when we pursued him. That's why you do business with a 42-year-old guy, been-there, done-that guy with a résumé like his. He's not only capable; he thrives in it." It was Rodgers' ninth division title.

The wild card round delivered a 30-6 loss to Houston — 146 passing yards, a pick-six, a fumbled snap returned for a touchdown. The final 2025 line: 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, seven interceptions, 65.7% completion. On May 16, 2026, he signed a new one-year deal with the Steelers worth up to $25 million, reuniting with head coach Mike McCarthy, who guided him through Super Bowl XLV fifteen years earlier. Aaron Rodgers has since confirmed 2026 will be his final season. Career totals through 2025: 264 games, 66,274 passing yards, 527 touchdowns, 123 interceptions. A career passer rating no other quarterback in NFL history has matched. One Super Bowl. Four MVPs. And one season left.
