Does Neymar Have COVID?

Neymar tested positive for COVID-19 in June 2025 while playing for Santos, with symptoms beginning that Thursday before he was immediately removed from team activities. It was the second time he contracted the virus, having previously tested positive while at Paris Saint-Germain in May 2021. He remained in stable condition, resting at home under medical supervision. That episode has since passed — the more pressing question heading into June 2026 is a different one entirely.

Is Neymar Injured?

Yes. Neymar sustained a grade-two calf injury while playing for Santos in the Brazilian league, and scans confirmed a partial tear of the muscle fibres rather than simple swelling, as the club had first suggested. The injury occurred during Santos' defeat to Coritiba on May 17 — just a day before Brazil's World Cup squad was announced.

Brazil's medical team confirmed he would need two to three weeks on the sidelines. He was officially ruled out of Brazil's World Cup opener against Morocco, with the team targeting his return for the second group match against Haiti instead.

What Happened to Neymar Jr?

The injury sparked controversy between Santos and the Brazilian Football Confederation. Santos had initially diagnosed the issue as minor swelling, while the national team's doctor revealed a more serious grade-two strain after a fresh MRI — a discrepancy that left Brazil's camp concerned the club may have downplayed the injury's severity.

Neymar hasn't played for the national team since October 2023, with injuries repeatedly disrupting the later stretch of his career. Despite limited playing time, his pedigree as Brazil's all-time leading scorer with 79 international goals earned him a place in Carlo Ancelotti's World Cup squad. Whether he features at full fitness now depends entirely on how the next stage of his recovery goes.
